Design Continuum -- Orbital, SplitBoard, SquishPin and blabber[scope]

Four recent projects from Boston's Design Continuum:
1- Orbital: The Orbital clock radio concept brings a new orientation to the category of clock radios. Designer Sebastian Petry of Design Continuum gave the Orbital a vertical orientation and smaller footprint to free up space on overcrowded desks and tables. With a furniture-like feel, the Orbital is 75mm in diameter - just wide enough to house two Bose satellite speakers.

2- SplitBoard: Designers Jo Wollschlaeger and Sebastian Petry of Design Continuum designed this concept with three students from Harvard Business School's class on Managing Product Development: Mehmet Bakir, LeeTeng Loh and Deana Menkes. Inspired by observing the frustrations that consumers encounter while interacting with ironing boards, the team gave the SplitBoard an asymmetrical form that improves the ironing experience. The easy-to-clean silicone board is heat resistant to 700 degrees Farenheit and splits to allow sleeves to be ironed on the narrow side; pant legs on the wide side. The quadro-pod stance increases stability while making set-up squeak- and pinch-proof.

3- SquishPin: The SquishPin concept makes pinning up drawings a little easier and less painful. SquishPins hold drawings to pinnable surfaces without creating holes. Designer Ann Sullivan of Design Continuum gave the SquishPin a curved loop design that allows users to comfortably carry a handful of pins without being stuck.

4- blabber[scope]: Syracuse University student and I.D. Intern at Design Continuum Tracy Luk has concepted a new outlet for expression and creative connection between child and parent. Called blabber[scope], the device challenges young children to capture images that pertain to a series of words selected by the parents. Both are communicated wirelessly through a web site, providing a new creative outlet desirable to young children, a mode of interaction for parents, and fodder for dinnertime conversations about the words and images of the day.
